The early period
Watering, irritation, light sensitivity and fluctuating or hazy vision can occur early. Some people notice dryness, glare or halos. Follow the prescribed drop schedule and avoid rubbing your eyes, even if they feel itchy.
Contact the clinic if symptoms concern you rather than trying to self-diagnose their significance.
The first week and following weeks
Vision and comfort may continue to change. Follow-up visits help the surgeon assess the flap, surface, refraction and symptoms. Use eye protection and hygiene measures as instructed.
There is no universal date for returning to screens, office work, exercise, swimming, eye makeup or driving. Visual demands and the surgeon’s findings matter.
Ongoing expectations
Dryness or night-vision symptoms may take time to settle and can sometimes persist. Residual refractive error may require discussion of glasses, contact lenses or further treatment. Reading-vision changes with age can still occur.
Keep follow-up appointments even if you feel well; not every issue is obvious to the patient.
Symptoms that need prompt assessment
Severe pain, sudden worsening of vision, marked or rapidly increasing redness, significant discharge or other acute concerning symptoms should be assessed promptly by a qualified eye-care professional. Do not wait for an internet form response.
